10 Key Scriptures for Marriage

Updated: Dec 30, 2020

Have you ever just found yourself or your spouse struggling in a dark place where it seems no encouragement can reach you? The Bible helped me tremendously during my low and dark moments in marriage. I have learned that the most effective way to build a marriage on a solid foundation is by learning what God has to say. The Key to this is not only reading the scriptures but memorizing and applying them. I strongly believe these scriptures will have a tremendous impact on your life and in your marriage and provide great encouragement.

Grab a set of index cards, write these scriptures down and place them where you will see them daily in your home.

Here you go; 10 Key Scriptures for Marriage

1. PROVERBS 24:3-4 (NIV) BUILD OUR HOME

"By wisdom a house is built , and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."

Daily Confession: Lord, may our home be built on your wisdom.

2. PSALM 51:10 (NIV) CREATE IN US A PURE HEART

"Create in me a pure heart O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me."

Daily Confession: Lord, create in us both a pure heart and seeking you first in all things.

3. I CORINTHIANS 13:4-8 (NIV) LOVE FOR EACH OTHER AND OTHERS

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

Daily Confession: Lord, give us your kind of love for our own spouse and family. Your Love for each other and others. Grow us in every aspect of your kind of love and may our love never fail because we have your love in us.

4. GENESIS 2:24 (NIV) - CONNECTING WITH EACH OTHER

"That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."

Daily Confession: Lord, give us the ability to feel connected to one another and complete each other in marriage. Let us create a new life of joy together.

5. COLOSSIANS 1:13-14 & 3:13-14 (NIV)- FORGIVENESS

"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

".......Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."

Daily Confession: Lord, may we always remember that you freed us from our sinful life of darkness. And may we show that same forgiveness to our spouse.

6. PHILIPPIANS 4:8 (NIV) - THINK POSITIVE

" Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."

Daily Confession: Lord, keep our thought life pure and honorable which will build our trust and guard our mind from addictive thought patterns. What we dwell on in our mind, will eventually come out in our attitude and actions.

7. PHILIPPIANS 2:14-15 (NIV) - DOING THINGS WITHOUT GRUMBLING OR ARGUING

"Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, "children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation." Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky."

Daily Confession: Lord, free our relationship of criticism and complaints to provide a kind, safe and honest home environment.

8. EPHESIANS 5:21-29 - SUBMISSION IN A BELIEVER'S HOUSEHOLD

"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as do the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church-".

Husbands and wives should not seek to control one another.

Daily Confession: Lord, may we joyfully submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. May we not seek to control one another.

9. ECCLESIASTES 4:9-10 & 4:12 (NIV) - WORKING TOGETHER AS A TEAM

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."

4:12 "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

Daily Confession: Lord, make our marriage a partnership and not a competition. Help us find positive ways to work together, especially during trying times. We are designed to complete and encourage one another.

10. PROVERBS 16:3 & JAMES 1:5 (NIV) - WISDOM AND GUIDANCE IN MONEY MANAGEMENT

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."

"If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

Daily Confession: Lord, guide us in how you want our funds earned and used. Allow us to put our marriage above any individual concern and make wise decisions in all things.

Alright Loves, Be sure to allow these scriptures into your spirit for great encouragement and apply for a positive change in your life and marriage. Until next time. Hugs and Love.
